Overview
In a pioneering fusion of AI and blockchain, NMKR collaborated with Serviceplan Group to launch Masumi Network in November 2024, creating the world's first decentralized protocol for AI agent payments and identity on Cardano. This framework-agnostic infrastructure empowers developers to build autonomous agents that collaborate, monetize services, and maintain verifiable trust - addressing the silos of traditional AI platforms. By leveraging NMKR's battle-tested payment APIs and Cardano's secure ledger, Masumi enables seamless agent-to-agent transactions, on-chain decision logging, and enterprise-grade compliance, unlocking a new era of scalable, sovereign AI economies.

Challenges
The rise of agentic AI promised autonomous workflows and collaboration but lacked a secure, decentralized foundation for identity, payments, and accountability- leaving agents exposed to centralization, high fees, and opaque actions. Enterprises like BMW and Generali sought compliant, transparent AI systems, while developers struggled with interoperability and monetization on public blockchains. NMKR saw untapped potential in Cardano’s low-cost, sustainable transactions and set out to build plug-and-play infrastructure linking computational agents with economic autonomy.
Solution
NMKR engineered Masumi's core payment and registry services, integrating their Minting API and NMKR Pay for instant FIAT-to-ADA ramps, token swaps, and batched micropayments. Agents register as blockchain-backed NFTs for immutable identities, deploy via Kodosumi runtime, and list on Sōkosumi marketplace - enabling frictionless collaborations like n8n-integrated paywalls. This NMKR-powered layer ensures GDPR-aligned logging and trust, allowing any AI framework to plug in without lock-in, while scaling Cardano's ecosystem for billions of agent-driven transactions.
Results
- 16,900+ transactions generated across Cardano mainnet and testnet (Jan–Oct 2025), with $23,000+ USD in verified mainnet volume—driving sustainable economic activity and real-world utility.
- 5,830+ total users registered (3,236 on Sōkosumi + 2,594 across platforms), including 2,158 paying users at a 66% free-to-paid conversion rate, onboarding enterprises like BMW and Generali.
- 4,461 jobs executed with 3,741 production deployments across 250+ live agents on Sōkosumi, spanning categories like research, analytics, and creative content.
- $4,000 USD platform revenue generated with a 17.5% take rate, plus partnerships with Cardano Foundation (case study published Mar 2025) and integrations (CrewAI, n8n, MCP).
- 5,600+ development commits, professional security audit (clean results), and 17+ open-source repos released, boosting ecosystem contributions.
- 61K+ YouTube views, 1.1M+ X impressions, and events like Masumi Hackathon Berlin and AI Agent Week Germany
“With Masumi, Cardano becomes the settlement layer for the AI agent economy.”
